“You never knew my face,” he says.
“I did,” Bucky insists. “You fought the battle maskless. You were at the funeral. I remember that– why don’t I remember your face?”
“... it’s better that you don’t,” he says cryptically.
Bucky can't help but feel like he's forgotten something important, and he doesn't figure it out until Sam asks him to recruit Spider-Man to the Avengers. He knows he used to know the young vigilante's face, and the bitter hero before him isn't the same Spider-Man he met in the airport. Despite Spider-Man's insistence, Bucky knows that no one should go through a life like theirs alone, and he's determined to give him a fresh start.
And just maybe find a new beginning for the Avengers as a whole in the process.
