Cole’s bleeding heavily, running on nothing but fear and adrenaline he knows is about to expire.
He’s out of options.
He stumbles, bracing himself against the rough stone walls of newly familiar buildings as he inches his way toward the door he’s been watching for the past week. He’s almost close enough to touch it, but trips and slams into the wall next to it instead.
The door opens and he’s met with the business end of a shotgun.
He tries to smile.

Summary
This wasn’t exactly “laying low,” but in Vash’s defense… he was bored.
“You do this a lot?” Vash asked, examining his face now that he could fully see him, no matter how shitty the fluorescents overhead were. His face looked older up close, there were bags under his eyes and a hint of a wrinkle forming between his brows that must have formed after years of furrowing his brows. His nose was strong and crooked, and there was a cut there that hadn’t fully healed yet. There was stubble along his chiseled jaw that Vash couldn’t resist but run his fingers along.
“Nah, I’m usually the one that needs patched up,” he said matter-of-factly, cleaning the wound itself now with one hand on the back of his head to hold him still. “Unless you’re talking about bringing people home, then yeah. Hold still now,” he murmured the last part, taking extra care as he applied the small butterfly bandages to his temple. “There. Good as new.” Wolfwood surveyed his handiwork with a smile, and set his hands on Vash’s thighs.

Vash has a nasty run-in with a stranger from the bar. Wolfwood saves the day and takes him home.

“I’ll take good care of her,” Vash smiles, petting down the side of Punisher’s barrel almost lovingly while Wolfwood’s pulse climbs to record heights. He sends a silent prayer to the dunes, hoping the sandworms are hungry tonight. If he gets eaten, he doesn’t have to think about why Vash looking mildly content is enough to set his nerves on fire.
“Bet your life on it, Blondie.”
They’re living off the wasteland, cheap bounties, and borrowed time. Still, at the end of it all, Wolfwood stays.
