Summary
For as long as Tails could remember, it was the two of them against the world. Sonic and Tails, best friends and brothers by bond, if not by blood. There’d never been any doubt in his mind that they were on the same page. Nothing was ever going to come between them. It was a fact, and Tails had more than enough data to back it up.
What he didn’t consider, however, were the conditions they lived in when he’d drawn that first conclusion. When it was just the two of them living on their own, constantly on the move. Of course they were each other’s best friends. They were all they had in the world aside from a few meager camping supplies and Sonic’s plane.
But that wasn’t the case anymore. Stuck in one place, they had more opportunities to spend time with their friends and to make new ones. More than Tails could ever remember having at one time. Turns out learning to adapt to change is a guaranteed constant in life.
Tails wished he’d been given the memo sooner; then maybe he’d have had more time to prepare.
As their friend group expands to include both Cream and Charmy, Tails has to learn to share his big brother's attention with the younger kids. Spoiler alert: he isn't very good at it.

After what William had put them all through, they didn't want them to suffer anymore. And while the animatronics finally get the chance at childhood again in their new home, old wounds reopen for Mike. Only this time, with new people that care about him, he isn't able to hide it for much longer.

Mob splashed his face. He felt the cool water trickle down his face and neck. The running tap water served as white noise, barely loud enough to overpower his thoughts. Staring at his hands, he felt his heart slowly sink at the possibility that none of his friends truly knew anything against him. What was there to know, anyway? They all know he's an esper, that's off the list, they all knew his struggles with his emotions, they knew he absolutely sucked at math.
Wow. He really was boring. There wasn't much more to him than that, was there? He looked up, locking eyes with his reflection in the mirror. He could think of one interesting thing about all of his friends. Reigen had a way with words, Tome was awfully knowledgeable in space and aliens, the list goes on. What about him? Or was it just that they didn't care to ask, and therefore he didn't care to think?
