Arlo scoffs. “Right. And I think if you could act a little less recklessly, we could avoid dying on public transportation.”
“Nah,” John decides, although he does put his other hand back on the pole just below Arlo’s. “I won’t die in a train crash. I’m going to die of something cooler, like saving the world or on the front lines of a riot or something.”
With a sigh, Arlo downs the rest of his current cup of coffee. “Getting killed by the police is cool now?”
“You’re right. More like, of radiation poisoning after destroying a nuclear weaponry base.”
“We are gathered here today to celebrate the passing of John Doe,” Arlo deadpans immediately, his gaze fixed on the blurred, dark walls whizzing by out the window. “And I do mean celebrate, because most of you are here to confirm that he’s actually gone so you can throw a party. He was beloved by the delusional minority and also Seraphina, to whom I would like to say: move on and deal. Amen.”

We see so little of the wider world of UnOrdinary, how it maintains itself and how people live their lives, even elements of how the school operates. While changed events have led to this world taking a different course, we will still see many of the same reactions. What purpose does the hierarchy serve outside of a school environment? Why does this society function? How can the slightest change affect everything that happens in the future?

Summary
John barks out a laugh—sharp, derisive, and incredibly condescending, despite being the injured one.
“Yeah fucking right,” he snarls, rolling his shoulders back, preparing to throw another punch. “And what makes you think that?”
Arlo shrugs. “I’m not some lapdog you can keep around.” He states plainly, visibly irritated. “You—“
He’s cut off when John slams him against the wall, moving in so close that their noses are almost touching. (It’s kind of hilarious how he has to look down to meet the other boy’s eyes.)
“Don’t fucking test me, Arlo.” He threatens, but there’s something off about it.
John’s pupils are blown so wide that he can barely see the amber in his eyes. The joker is staring at him with some kind of hunger, and a flush steadily creeps up Arlo’s neck as he blinks.
