    “We’ve had knives closer to killing us than this. Stop being stupid.” Shouta muttered, breathing deeply, “It's just a razor blade. We're fine. I'm the one holding it. We are okay. Just get it over and done with.” Glancing up at the mirror, Shouta frowned, struggling to recognise himself. Glaring spitefully into one's own reflected eye was always an experience. Recognising a look of loathing only reserved for moments of pure resentment.

    It wasn't as early as he thought it was, only 8:17ish, not the five am he was unfortunately accustomed to. Quiet hours ended at 8am. Upstairs neighbors are already clattering about in their kitchen, undoubtedly leading unburdened lives, chairs dragging noisily against hard flooring. He needed to get out of his own head. The pair ate quietly. Occasionally insisting on feeding the other spoonfuls of their own meals despite them being exactly the same.

    He was so tired. His limbs were heavy. Like his hearing was underwater, as if it was any better before, he could hear even less. The bird in his chest had claws. Its flight had left him bleeding internally.

    “You obviously don't like this place.” Shouta stated.

    Hizashi hummed, eyes glassy and distant.

    Aizawa got (debatebly) lucky with getting a narcolepsy diagnosis early and intervention and medications and sleep studies and accommodations quickly followed. Aizawa's lived with this body for years, lived with narcolespy for years. He's used to it, it's his normal. Having narcolepsy is just another natural part of his life in the same way that being a pro hero is part of his life, that being a teacher is part of his life, that being a husband is part of his life.

    That doesn't mean that sometimes it still doesn't blindside him.

    Hitoshi isn’t devout, not like some of the soot-streaked street kids he shares sleeping spots and body heat with. Not like scarred Shouto or flinching Izuku, who both swear by Yagi, God of Perseverance and Patron of Common Heroes. Not like humming Kyouka, who dedicates every song that trips off her tongue to Yamada, God of Music and Patron of Restless Souls, to make even the most desperate of panhandling a prayer. Hitoshi has long-learned that sort of faith is for people with slightly more hope than him. 

    But this is shelter, and it’s shelter he desperately needs, and Hitoshi is not devout, but Hitoshi is also not stupid. 

    Hunted, terrified, and with no other options, Hitoshi takes shelter in a shrine. He expects less than nothing. What he receives, instead, is help.

    Despite having lived with Aizawa Shouta and Yamada Hizashi for the past couple of months, Shinsou Hitoshi still found himself watching his steps and being careful not to do anything to ruin the miracle that had found him adopted by the two people he looked up to above all others. When he finally does slip up and get in trouble, he finds himself on edge and waiting for the real punishment to come – a grounding couldn’t be as simple as being banned from television and video games and coming straight home after school, right? There had to be more to it than that, he just… needed to wait until they told him what that was.
