Summary
“Sleep while you can,” Tiamat orders.“Might not wake up.”
“Then don’t waste your breath talking.” Aevis had been quiet and still, knowing perhaps the same necessity that Tiamat did, but with Biast’s conceding he speaks again. His voice is softer than before.
“That pity, Aevis? Or hope?”
“Just tired of ghosts rehearsing their hauntings,” he mutters.
Biast hums. “Thought that was the point of ghosts.”
“No,” Tiamat says curtly. He looks away from his hands, from the idol, to where his unit lies.
“No?”
“The point of ghosts is to be buried.”
A strange film casts Wyvern’s gaze as he glances at Tiamat. That kindling again… but it is obfuscated with black smoke.
“And the point of our kind,” Tiamat continues, voice ringing in low mockery of a priest, “is to serve.”

Summary
At what point does a piece of art become irredeemable? Not because of its quality, or even its content and message, but because of how it has been put to use by its creators?
A review of the Majestic Theater Company's production of the beloved Garlean classic Footsteps of Our Fathers, several years after the collapse of the empire that birthed it. This was written for Broken Chains: A Garlemald Fanzine, and is a spiritual successor to my earlier piece Metatheatre: "The Fall of The Black Wolf".
