Summary
After being captured by the Wen Clan, tortured, and with his golden core melted, Jiang Cheng is thrown into the Burial Mounds to die. There he takes on the resentful energy of the 1,500 Jiang sect members who were killed during the siege of Lotus Pier and disposed of in the Burial Mounds. Summary
“I need some advice on something,” Jin Ling says. “There’s someone… that I like. Someone from the Lan sect.”
Sizhui twitches an eyebrow; it’s the slightest movement. Jin Ling takes a deep breath before continuing. “I want to court him but I—but he’s—” he tries to explain, feeling Sizhui’s warm gaze like fire on his skin. “He’s different than the other Lans.” He’s better. He’s special. “So, I need to impress him.”
It takes a moment for Sizhui to react, and when he finally does, it’s with a gasp. He brings a hand up to his mouth. “Oh my gosh! Jin Ling—you like Jingyi, don’t you?”
Jin Ling blinks. “What? I mean—uh. Yes?” he tentatively agrees, though he has absolutely no idea why. “You guessed correctly,” he says, though Sizhui had not. The more he speaks, the thinner his voice seems to feel. He laughs awkwardly, practically barking the sound out. “That obvious, is it?”

Jin Ling is in love with Sizhui, and at his wit’s end, decides to ask Sizhui for advice. But Sizhui thinks that Jin Ling likes Jingyi, and Jin Ling doesn’t have the heart to correct him—especially when Sizhui is so eager to help him.
