Summary
When investigative journalist Rook receives an anonymous email about a string of disappearances in the Necropolis, she expects another dead-end case. But when her contact doesn't show up for their scheduled meeting, she realizes this is something else—something older, something hidden.
Her only lead? Emmrich Volkarin, a former detective from the now defunct Mourn Division, the city’s long buried paranormal investigations unit. He worked the case back in 2012—and appears to be the only one who made it out. The files were sealed, the operation written off as a failure, and Emmrich has spent the last thirteen years avoiding the ghosts of his past.
But the past isn’t done with him—and it's about to be torn wide open in the form of Rook, a fiery, young, and utterly relentless journalist who refuses to accept "failed operation" as an answer.
She wants the truth.
Even if it means dragging a man who’s spent thirteen years trying to forget back into the shadows of the Necropolis.

The gods she had been raised to venerate, a prayer to Elgar’nan for favor in raising crops, his countenance the life-giving sun, or a plea to Ghilan’nain, the Mother of halla, to guide their clan safely through the forests and mountains; her beliefs crushed by the horrifying truth of their tyrannical destruction, the obsessive desire for power at any cost. Could she truly expect shemlen to understand they were against the will of her gods? And could she admit that her stumbling had freed them…?
A mini-novelization of the events of Veilguard with my headcanons, with a focus on Rook and Emmrich's romance.
