In this AU, Strickler knows Jim is the Trollhunter, but Jim doesn't know Strickler is a changeling. Otto is the one who sent out Angor Rot, and Strickler has been working behind the scenes to try and stop Jim from being killed. When Otto and the Janus Order find out that Strickler is trying to save his favorite student, they inject Strickler with a potion mixed with grave sand that permanently turns changelings into raging monsters. For Strickler, however, the injection doesn’t bring out his rage, but his maternal instincts. In other words, Jim wakes up one morning to a troll who constantly mothers him in the most troll-like way possible.

Summary
From what Jim had learned, both from what little information Blinkous would give him and the information provided by his mentor, there were two sides of the war that he had just been thrown into. One side was ruled by Gunmar, the previous king of the Gumm-Gumms, and father to Bular. The other side was ruled by Vendel, the current king of the Gumm-Gumms after having succeeded in taken them away from Gunmar using the Decimaar Blade that Vendel (surprise) had also stolen from Gunmar.
Jim could easily tell which side he wanted to be on, just by the way he was treated alone. And that certainly wasn't Vendel's side.

Summary
On his seventh birthday, Jim Lake, Jr. is lured into Avalon, a land of magic ruled by the Pale Lady of the Fae.
After following her son into Avalon, Doctor Barbara Lake agrees to a game created by the Pale Lady: with the help of Stricklander, one of the few creatures left in Avalon, Barbara must find her son in the Pale Lady's castle within three hours. If she wins, she and Jim can return to Arcadia, but if she loses, they both will be trapped in Avalon forever.
And the Pale Lady never plays fair...
