The kinslayings of the Noldor, the rebellion of the Númenóreans, and the silent resentment of Elrond are not inexplicable anomalies, but rather the inevitable responses of creatures worn down by a protective authority that never truly intended to function—one that demanded daily martyrdom from its children, leaving them to rot in the darkness of time.
