Summary
Surviving cancer forces Scully to reconsider what she wants from the life she’s been given back. After years of pouring herself into the FBI and the X-Files, she realizes she can no longer afford to give it everything. She resigns, returns to medicine, and begins a new chapter in a life she once thought she would never have.
A year passes before an unexpected reunion brings Mulder back into Scully’s life, a life she has rebuilt in his absence.
The time apart has done little to resolve the hurt between them. Old wounds remain open, difficult truths have yet to be faced, and the choices they made have left them questioning whether they can ever find their way back to what they once shared. They still want each other in their lives, but finding their way forward will mean confronting the hurt of the past, navigating the complicated reality of the present, and learning whether trust can survive everything that has happened.

Summary
Picking up almost two years after the events of The Spaces Between: Post, Mulder awakes in a hospital in May of 2005 with no memory of anything past the events at Brown Mountain in 1999.
The life he wakes up to is everything on paper he swore he didn't want and hated. Scully finds herself torn between supporting Mulder, who is intent on picking-up where he left off in 1999, and building something new for herself and continuing their work on a network of informants on her own. A mysterious woman enters Mulder's life, just as unexplained surveillance enters Scully's.
The story alternates between 2005 and various points between 2003 and 2004, as both Mulder and Scully struggle to remember themselves, each other, and those they’ve loved and lost. Can memory be a guide when it’s stripped of meaning? What happens when memory becomes both a joy and a burden? What happens when memory threatens to steal from the present? As Mulder and Scully start on their pathway to healing will it be together or apart? Can they give each other the space they need to be who they are now, and still love each other?
