Summary
Every plan Jing Yuan makes out of anxiety, instead of necessity, ends up, somehow, inevitably, every time, being a plan he is forced to carry out.
...it's his fault he let himself make a plan for if Yanqing were to die during his lifetime. It has to be. It has to be, because if it isn't his fault, then this was a senseless loss he could have prevented, and he can't do that again.
OR,
Yanqing dies in Scalegorge Waterscape, despite Dan Heng's best attempts to save him. Jing Yuan manages to be there for his final moments, and goes through what every parent fears most.
His baby is gone.
