Summary
Kate is thirty weeks pregnant with the twins when she unexpectedly goes into labour. The usual commotion ensues. This is a follow on from my fic Flashlight. Warnings: contains mentions of blood, vomit and as is to be expected, childbirth, but nothing too graphic. Title inspired by the song Baby Mine, from the film Dumbo.

He understands it, how this all could be taken as a morphine-dream. He’d thought the same, right up until that one nurse came in to crack the comfortable curtain between knowing reality and holding onto imagination. How else could it be real, all those impossibilities stacked up?
“You’re allowed to want more,” he says, and his heated face already is tilting up like his body knows the need better than his mind.
Hastings’ brow creases.
“You can,” he pushes, desperate, because it would be just like the gaffer to tell him that it’s not the time; that it’s too soon, and he’s in too vulnerable a position. All sensible things to say. But he doesn’t give a fuck, not now, here in a hospital bed this man's spent a night watching over and twenty minutes holding him close in - and Christ, not after all these years of looking away and missing the glances returned.
Alternately; a rough start, unexpected comfort, and how to go from there after spending a decade upholding the law to the letter - through bad cooking, physiotherapy, romance, throwing well-deserved punches at police bars, a home, the most loyal of best friends and a complementary honorary nephew.

Summary
Steve goes through withdrawal, with some help from his friends. Set in the same basic universe as the Series 7 script, but this one is prose. Hopeful, but quite graphic. Strong language. Everyone in here is basically a nice person doing their best in a difficult situation.
