Summary
Astarion was in the middle of the lair, screaming, sobbing, stabbing his former master over and over again, covered in the disgusting blood of disgusting men. When he was done, he would take the staff, the symbol of freedom for anyone that wasn't him, and break it over his knee. And he would turn in rage to Zamira, barely able to hold himself back from throttling her, and tell the sweet tiefling whose hands were protectively hugging her arms, her tail wrapped around her legs in the way it always did when she was upset, that he hoped she died painfully, horribly, screaming.
He wouldn't let that happen. He wouldn't let that mistake happen again.
Astarion would die here, along with the rest of spawn he had broken.

As Astarion sat on a grassy hillside in Thaniel's country and waited for the sun to rise, he thought about the last year of his life. When had he taken his first step from who he used to be to who he was now? Perhaps, at the end of all things, the only true answer was the very first time he laid eyes on the tall drow woman who he would later come to know so well.

This fic is Astarion POV, and covers the events of the game for the first 25k, and then the couple's quest to help the spawn, as well as free them and Astarion from the vampire curse, for the remaining 35k. It's fully written and edited, and will be posted one chapter a day until it's done.
