  Summary

  11-year-old Kaladin is sold off to pay for his family's debts, taken away to be taught how to be a concubine for lighteyed royalty. He is selected by King Dalinar Kholin as a gift for his son, Highprince Adolin Kholin.

  Meanwhile, 17-year-old Adolin is not at all looking forward to receiving his gift. When he does, he is determined to make the boy's life as good as he can. In the midst of that, feelings for a childhood friend grow to something more, and he learns that love can look like cruelty.
