Years ago you built a friendship with the lightning mage only to have it all come crashing down as the gap of power between the two of you became wider and his behavior became too much. When the dust settled, you were left broken, beaten, and screaming that you were done with him. It wasn't your responsibility to look out for him. If he wanted to destroy his reputation then that was his choice.
