“I missed you!” Wylan squealed, burying his face in Jesper’s neck. Matthias and Nina muffled their laughter into their hands. The men playing at the table were exchanging bewildered looks. Jesper sent the whole lot of them a deadly glare.
“ Wylan, how much did you have to drink?”
“I don’t know,” Wylan said. “A lot, maybe.”

Jesper Fahey has selective blindness but doesn't realize it. The condition is a cognitive limitation, not a vision problem, meaning that his brain filters out information as a defense. It began as a coping mechanism, but the things he couldn't see or hear were so minor that it never had an effect on his life. That was, until the day he encountered a person he couldn't see or hear - someone he couldn't perceive in the slightest.
