Summary
In the year 233 AC, King Maekar fell in battle, his eldest sons already claimed by fire, and folly. Leaving his succession in doubt, the realm teetered on the edge of chaos until the King’s Hand called a Great Council to settle the matter. Of the five claims presented, one was dismissed, another refused, and a third silenced with blood to secure the Hand’s will. Thus it came down to two: Prince Aegon, the king’s youngest son, and Maegor, the king’s grandson through his second son. Though Aegon bore the mockery and mistrust of lords great and small, young Maegor, still a babe at his mother’s breast, bore a far darker burden. He carried the name of a cursed tyrant and the blood of a monster who'd succumbed to madness. Madness, many whispered, that the child must surely share. So it was Aegon who ascended the Iron Throne, crowned by the will of Bloodraven.
But a question remained, one few care to answer:
What of the boy sired by madness?
What of the child with fire in his blood... and a throne stolen before he could crawl? -

Boremund reached a hand up to tug at the thick copper torc around his neck. He was dressed well for the occasion. Belting a patterned green tunic that fell nearly to his knees, coupled with several rings wrought in bronze and gold that clinked when he fidgeted.
Ned scratched his chin. The air awkward and silent, “Your father is an easy man to get on with. He will like you same as he did last, I’m sure of it.”
That brought a fleeting smile to his face. Though fear was still there. For all that man, all that muscle and coarse black hair, all that thickness in his jaw, he looked a frightened doe. A frightened, seven-foot doe. A sweet boy, too sweet for Robert maybe. Ned could not say.
