Penelope picked them up first, and she opened the leather cover. “Did you remember your signatures on everything,” she teased. “Oh, they are copies of our marriage register. Many copies. Are you - Why do you need so many? What are the lawyers going to do?”
Her voice was sharp and she heard it, but it was only months since they had a whispered argument about calling off their wedding. Penelope trusted her husband, but he suddenly looked very guilty.
