Daphne is to marry the Marquess of Northhampton. They met at a ball a few weeks ago and he proposed yesterday. It's all very sudden at once, but that's the nature of an engagement, I suppose. Daphne is all excited, so is mother, and in fact the whole house. We all thought it was going to be the prince, but.... what exactly happened, Daphne absolutely won't tell me.
Thomas - that is, the Marquess - will try to get a special licence. If all goes well, Daphne and he will be married in a few days.
