He cupped his nearing empty bottle, mentally debating himself. She was having a down moment, that was obvious, and she might have actually started talking about it if Derek hadn’t interrupted them. He loved the guy, but his knack for the worst timing in the world was an incredibly unfortunate talent. He sucked on his bottom lip, before quickly blurting, “Come hang out with us,” before he lost his nerve.
Her head immediately started shaking. “Yeah, I’m sure they’d love that, me hanging around. Not exactly in a party mood, Zabel.”
“Neither am I,” he said, raising his eyebrows. “But I did say I’d help you drink away that bad thought, and that’s a job I take very seriously.”
