This version actually has a general roadmap of how the chapters are going to work out, meaning it's less messy and more consistent in its themes and story. Think of the other as a rough draft and this as the finished work.-
This fic hopes to explore the complex emotions behind Shadow Milk and his difficulty grasping the nuances of emotions after being trapped in a tree for decades. He really is just a stray cat unused to affection without payment. Luckily Pure Vanilla is quite fond of 'psstpsstpsst'ing his way into befriending anything that catches his eye. Enemies to friends to lovers is a steel pole that we're ramming into at 70mph. Also Black Sapphire, Candy Apple, and Shadow Milk are a demented found family trope, and no one can convince me those aren't his kids.
-After the ascension of Pure Vanilla, the jester and his minions flee into hiding as they contemplate what to do next. Weakened and hurting from betrayal, Shadow Milk juggles the concept of regaining his former power while combating his other half's patience.

While the author thought that he made it clear he harbored no more feelings for the creature, it seems Cipher is intent on capturing his attention through any means necessary.

The Sage blinked, coming face to face with the mysterious blond figure who had caught him. His voice gone quiet in his throat, the Sage squinted to study the face of his saviour, but a dark shadow covered his features, rendering him unrecognizable.
Under the weight of the other’s gaze, the figure stiffened, suddenly letting go of the Sage’s arm. The Sage stumbled back ever so slightly, joints creaking in protest as he was no longer being supported by the graceful stranger.
Once he finally regained his balance, the Sage’s head shot back up, eyes widened in search of his rescuer. And yet, the mysterious figure was nowhere to be found, seemingly melted away into the shadows.

What if it made him desire a second chance at being the Virtue of Knowledge?🐇
Shadow Milk Cookie escapes the Silver Tree with hopes of receiving forgiveness for his time as a Beast so he may return to his position as a virtue. However, he has not realized just how long he has been imprisoned for. Before he has any chance of being a virtue once again, he must relearn the ways of the world, including how to speak the common language.
The silver tongue of the Master of Deceit is useless when there's nobody it can be spoken to with, though there's one especially compassionate ancient willing to meet him halfway.
I wonder what could ensue from this..

In which Sage of Truth-esque Shadow Milk (not a soul jam holder) finds himself as the Beast of Deceit
Shadow Milk was a ‘normal cookie’; he often found it funny that he shared the same name as a character from a novel he read. Friends and students alike frequently teased him for it. But alas, he was a teacher at heart, and there was no way in his mind that he would torment someone so kind-hearted who believed in the truth.
After all, Pure Vanilla was such a charming character that he was swayed by his lowest and cried at his peaks when he overcame his suffering.
This is why it was distressing to find himself as an astral projection watching over Pure Vanilla in a world where he was still known as “Healer Cookie.”
With a book in his hands, he was given a checklist of requirements. Oh- He was Shadow Milk Cookie, from the novel. Shouldn’t he be given a script? Witches, where would he even begin? He was a performer at heart, but in something so life-like, he might have been given an impossible task.
Please let this be a lie, or a dream. Yes, a dream was better.

Summary
Upon mailing his letter to the other ancients about Beast-Yeast, Pure Vanilla includes that a new meeting must be held for a final discussion before they all depart for their personal journeys to the vast continent. In that meeting, he also introduces a tactic none of the other ancients had planned on using: get to know the beasts and see if they are worthy of redeeming. Unbeknownst to the ancients, it would be as if it is the beasts’ second chance at society.
Five months had occurred since the ancients’ visit to Beast-Yeast. Fortunately for the world, Pure Vanilla’s last minute meeting had truly paid off. All of the beasts had taken their chance at domestication and are truly thriving alongside their other halves.
Well… almost all of them.

Shadow Milk, for his part, is thrown by his counterpart suddenly flipping the script and trying to woo him.
