Summary
This is a soft, two-part story about Ryo and Sakuya's relationship, told from two different perspectives.
The first, "Stars and Promises," is a snapshot of a single Friday night. Seventeen-year-old Ryo and Sakuya exchange deeply personal gifts: matching "sunshine and bubblegum" (pink and yellow) hoodies and hair clips, and a set of "promise earrings". Their evening culminates in them piercing each other's ears in the tiny apartment bathroom, a sincere promise for their future together.
The second part, "Tonton's Love," sees their relationship through the eyes of Tonton, Ryo's most cherished stuffed dog. Tonton, who has been Ryo's constant comfort through years of anxiety and loneliness, watches his boy's profound happiness with Sakuya, all while quietly worrying he'll be replaced or outgrown. An epilogue jumps three years into the future, finding Ryo and Sakuya at 20, moving into their new apartment. As they carefully pack Tonton for the move, they prove his fears wrong, calling him "family" and making it clear he will always be part of their life together.
