After being dumped by Willoughby, Marianne Dashwood is now on a self-improvement kick. She is determined to mature, to improve her mind by extensive reading and to definitely NOT ever fall in love again. She has firmly ‘friend zoned’ Colonel Brandon. Now married, Elinor wants to see Marianne happily married too. Preferably to Colonel Brandon. While Elinor works to get Marianne to change her mind about ‘no second attachments,’ her task is made harder because Colonel Brandon appears to have lost interest. As Marianne discovers more and more to like about Colonel Brandon, Elinor can’t be sure if Colonel Brandon is even trying to court Marianne now or not!
More ups-and-downs of the Marianne/Brandon courtship, a bit of angst, and while we’re not at the end yet, this installment is mostly sweet, tooth-rotting fluff.

Summary
Installment 3 in my informal Brandon/Marianne romance series. All stories are my take on how Marianne and Brandon’s actual courtship took place since that story is not fleshed out in either Jane Austin’s book or the 1995 film. In this story, circumstances begin to converge on Brandon, capturing him in a deadly paradox: as Beth’s guardian, Honor demands that he duel Willoughby for seducing her. But, if Brandon fights in earnest and kills Willoughby, Marianne will hate him forever. To fulfill the role of a true English gentleman of honor, it seems that Brandon must either kill or be killed.

Story is AU, with an upbeat ending, but kind of a darkish ending, too. Might not necessarily be what you expect from the summary.
