Summary
Mary has spent her whole life between St. Agnes Orphanage and increasingly crappy foster homes. At nine years old she doesn’t expect to be adopted, and she doesn’t know what having a family is supposed to feel like. If she’s being honest, she’s more than a little unclear about the notion of friendship too.
That all changes one day when a persistent boy with slurred speech and a too big smile, decides they’ll be friends. The rest, as they say, is history.

It’s Steve’s fault. Robin is absolutely certain of this.
And if one were to really think about it, it’s also Dustin’s fault, for forcing their friendship through a sweet but misguided attempt at getting his older-brother-slash-guardian-figure some action.
And, technically speaking, none of this would have happened if not for El’s Doctor Brenner asshole doping up a bunch of pregnant women and stealing their kids, and Robin definitely feels great about blaming him for yet another thing, even if this one is, from a worldwide perspective, way lower stakes than child torture and cutting the fabric between worlds like a hot knife through butter.
The mixing of metaphors is getting too confounding for Robin to keep up with her own brain. Like usual. She blinks and brings herself back to the present.
…Ah.
Bad idea. Disastrous idea. Right.

Summary
*Steve doesn’t work at the WSQK, but he and Robin are still good friends. This is during the 18 month time-skip between season 4 and 5.*
The crawls were draining everyone. Nancy having to do most of the planning-then constantly being doubted, even though her plans never failed. Her mind was always occupied.
The only thing that grounded her was working with Robin, at the WSQK (squawk). They’d grown closer because of their time together, and Nancy soon found herself wanting to know more. To be with Robin more.
Only as friends, of course. (wink wink nudge nudge)

“Idiot” Nancy mumbles as she brings her hands up to caress Robin's face gently with her thumbs, tears that had been brimming in her eyes falling loose, “I can’t, I already lost a friend, I can’t lose you too, please Robin don’t leave me, please don’t leave me, I don’t- I can’t, I-I don’t want you to go” Nancy pulls her closer, so close she’s afraid she might break her. “this can’t be happening, Robin I-’’ a sob escapes her, whispering so low only Robin could hear, “I need you” she cradles Robin’s head with one hand as she hides her face in the crook of Robin’s neck breathing her in like she won’t be able to ever again. “Please.”
When Robin gets vecna'd something inside Nancy breaks. The two become close due to Nancy's need to keep an eye on Robin, when she vows the upside down won't take another friend from her. Robin is confused and flustered at Nancys new attitude and clinginess.
