Summary
It’s not like Kara deliberately sets out to make her life harder than it should be. It’s not her fault that she’s excitable, okay, and she forgets things sometimes and maybe those things should not be forgotten under any circumstances. Maybe those things include, well, housing forms, which as it turns out are super important to submit on time if she wants to not be homeless on her sophomore year of college.
Her sister’s going to give her so much crap about this.
Alternatively: in which Kara forgot to fill out the housing form and was left with no choice but to live in the most exclusive apartment on campus.

“Fuck!” Mommy shouts, it's a bad word. Aly wants to say something, but her Mommy's eyes wide and she’s crying. “Fuck…fuck…”
Aly feels her chest start to hurt, her stomach all twisty. She’s never seen her mommy like this. “What’s wrong?” Aly asks, reaching out to touch her mommy’s hand.
When she does, Mommy lets out a very loud sob. “Ducky…” she whispers. “Do you…” Mommy makes another weird face, like she’s hurting. “Do you remember when I talked to you about emergencies?”

Summary
Christmas wasn't always Ava’s favorite. Growing up in the orphanage she actually started to kind of hate it. Because Christmas at St. Michael’s was more about prayer than anything else.
There were no lights, no decorations - they didn’t get fancy food or presents beyond hand-me-down sweaters and socks.
A lot of things Ava used to love were beaten out of her by that place.
So many of those things have been given back to her by her new family.

“Okay so…don’t freak out.” Camila sets her down next to Beatrice’s and then pulls out her phone and starts tapping through it. Beatrice watches the sunflower keychain she has hanging from the case jangle around with each swipe of her finger. “Now, Lilith told me your situation. You need a fake girlfriend.”
Beatrice gets up. “Not another dating app, Camila. I can't…”
“No,” Lilith’s hands are on her shoulders, keeping her in place. “It’s not that.”
Camila makes a face, a wince, like it’s somehow worse than her nightmarish stint on eHarmony. “This feels vaguely familiar to when I was told I’d be taking some time away from home and ended up in a catholic boarding school.”
“Well,” Camila stops searching through her phone, apparently finding what she needed. “It’s nothing like that at all, but it might be equally as jarring.
