"The crowd erupted in applause once more. The President cleared her throat. Trisha leaned in closer to the screen. 'This year's victors will be reaped from citizens ages 19–25, to remind the districts that even those who have stepped into adulthood are still the Capitol’s to command, and that freedom is an illusion granted only at our discretion.' There was a subsequent bang behind Trisha. She sat up and looked behind the couch to see her brother’s bag slumped at his feet."
Craig was terrified of death. After he aged out of the Reaping, he thought he was safe to live a boring, comfortable, and repetitive life in District Four. It turns out he was sorely mistaken.
