It’s quiet for a few moments, before Mike finally whispers back, “What kind of story do you want me to tell?”
Will considers this for a moment. “One about hope,” he murmurs, and he closes his eyes heavily, resting his head on Mike’s chest. “About how things could be different.”
Again, Mike goes quiet. His heart beats, a gentle thumpthumpthump, in time with Will’s own, and he holds Will closer, staring up at the endless sky above them. Then finally, he begins to tell his tale.
“Once, there were two princes,” Mike says softly, “born in countries at war with one another…”

Four years after being freed from his possession, Will is relearning his identity—who he is, now that he’s no longer the Shadow Prince. Jonathan raises a brow. He’s silent for a few moments, as if he’s contemplating this decision, but never once does his gaze leave Steve’s own. “Is that what we are?” he whispers back. “Friends?”
There’s something in Jonathan’s eyes, something undeniable and yet unreadable all at the same time. Somehow, he says everything but nothing all at once, and somehow, Steve understands him fully and yet also doesn’t get him at all.
“We,” Steve says, quiet enough that he can barely even hear himself, “can be whatever you want us to be.”
In the aftermath of a nearly thirty-year long war between the kingdoms of Corazzia and Luzios, Steve finds himself on a diplomatic mission in the country he’s been taught to fear his whole life. And as tensions run high and both kingdoms prepare for the royal wedding, Steve stumbles into… something with the Luziosian king, Jonathan.
Too bad he’s not exactly sure what that something is.
