The thought of Cocolia being permanently gone is a thought that brings both immeasurable relief and a gut curdling despair. Somehow, some way, the thought takes a weight off her chest, and yet, her heart doesn't feel like it beats like it used to, her lips ache for a missing puzzle piece that never had the chance to slot together, her hands ache to feel warm skin, and old wounds don't necessarily sting, they simply throb, ache like a finely healed scar in cold weather.

Losing Tingyun was like being plunged into complete silence. She was gone, utterly, irrevocably, painfully gone. And yet, she was absolutely inescapable. Tingyun's presence was like a ringing in Yukong's ears. She wasn't quite there, and it wasn't quite sound but it was constant, impossible to simply shrug off. It was an itch deep inside her, burrowing beneath her ribcage, in between her lungs. It was exactly like a ringing in her ears in that it could only be quelled by the presence of what was absent.
