Neve snorted softly. “Quite the get up they have her in tonight. Like something out of a very Nevarran fairytale.”
There were several observations Lucanis could point out about that. How the skirt limited Rook’s mobility or how they had clearly failed to properly break in her shoes. How utterly unhappy she looked, though he doubted anyone who didn’t know her had spotted her tells. But Neve was observant. She probably saw the same things he did. He settled on keeping things simple. “I don't like this.”
Neve nodded. “Picked up on it too? They're planning something.”
“Something involving Rook,” he muttered.
A year after the Blight, a diplomatic summit ends with a Victory Ball, an attempted proposal, and questions about how we shape our stories.

Rook’s humor shields her, her flirtations dodge emotional wounds. Garrus, scarred and pragmatic, is her anchor, his honor bruised but unbroken. Their story begins in Minrathous’s shadowy markets, when a hooded noble hires them to retrieve an artifact from a forgotten crypt. Rook agrees eagerly; Garrus follows reluctantly.
This simple job will unravel ancient secrets, betrayals, impossible loves, and a destiny they cannot escape. When the Veil weakens, no one remains untouched—not even those who believe in nothing.

Summary
In the wake of what was supposed to be the end of the world, Xolisile Aldwir and Lucanis Dellamorte have somehow survived the greatest odds they’ve ever faced, though not without grief and hardship to accompany them. As a reward to themselves, they retreat to what should be an exquisite holiday in recently troubled Treviso’s Villa Dellamorte.
Unfortunately for Lucanis, his grandmother, Caterina, may have conceded her position as First Talon to her favoured grandson, but that doesn’t mean she has any less of a voice in the goings-on of the Crows and, in particular, Villa Dellamorte. And once she catches wind of the blossoming romance between Lucanis and Xolisile, she becomes convinced that they are, in fact, getting married. To the point where she has begun preparations for their wedding – something neither Lucanis nor Xoli were aware was going to occur.
In the midst of chaotic wedding preparations, Lucanis and Xoli will have to work to find their new footing in Treviso… and, eventually, propose to one another.
