Summary
Five years ago Edward nearly paid the ultimate price to protect his family and country from the resurgence of an old enemy. He survived thanks only to his young daughter's new form of alchemy she alone can use. Now that Alphonse and Mei's daughter is old enough they have finally returned to Xing in hopes of uncovering more about Sara's alchemy. Sara isn't the only puzzle for them to unravel. Lan Fan inhaled sharply and reached for Ling’s raised left hand. Its ever-present itch had vanished, seeming real only for its absence. She gently turned it over and ran her flesh thumb along the back of it.
There, etched in pink so faint it was barely visible, was undeniably an Ouroboros tattoo.
Ling laughed, breathy and sparse. “Greed.”
Ling Yao made it. The cost was so high, but he was Emperor; he could change things. He could protect his people. It was, of course, a thing much easier said than done: some of his people—like those who attempted to kill him today—had rather aggressive complaints.
They got much more than they bargained for from a certain homunculus.

“Yeah? What, you didn’t expect to see me?” Greed smirked.
“You’re back?” Ed all but screeched.
Ling and Greed’s minds blanked at the same moment, and they came to a sudden realization in unison. If Lan Fan’s sudden inhale beside them was any indication, she had too.
“No one told him,” she said.
