Summary
Rio knew it was probably messed up and made no sense, but he’d always been able to count on boxing to help relax him, to calm him. Normally, it cleared his head like nothing else - sex didn’t even come close - and he’d needed that clarity tonight.
It had been three days since shit had gone sideways - since Elizabeth had taken it upon herself to fix a problem that hadn’t fucking existed, and blown the deal they’d been working on straight to hell. She’d fucked up, and to say he hadn’t handled it well was the understatement of the fucking century.

Summary
It turned out Elizabeth had been right all those months ago; people like her getting shot in neighborhoods like this one *did* tend to draw a lot of attention. When it made the news that the new tough-on-crime city councillor had been shot in her own home just hours after winning the vote…? Yeah, that had people pretty fucking rattled.

“You could’ve left sooner. Y’didn’t have t’stay with him.”
Beth’s head whipped around in surprise, the dirty dishes she’d been on her way to collect forgotten. She’s heard him angry and irritated before, but she didn’t think she’d ever heard him sound so… petulant. But she didn’t understand where it was coming from. After all this time, how was it even still an issue?
Something in her snapped.
“How long are you going to hold that against me?”

Summary
Scrolling through the comments posted after the event, she was happy to see that most people agreed, enthusiastically voicing their support for the opening, extolling the benefits the garden space would bring to the local community. There was the expected handful of naysayers, of course, people who thought even the small grant provided by the city to get the project off the ground was still too much. It was a complete waste of money, according to one man. Another ranted about not wanting his tax dollars to support people who didn’t want to do anything to help themselves.
Forcing herself to ignore the negative comments, she kept scrolling, occasionally replying with her thanks to a particularly supportive constituent. She had almost gotten to the end when one comment in particular caught her eye. It wasn’t a criticism, but it wasn’t exactly a compliment, either. At least, not in the same way the others were.
Reading it again, Beth’s breath caught in her throat.
“Nice looking garden, Councilwoman. What fertilizer you using these days?”
