Rey’s small, but she’s territorial.
She’d had to have the word explained to her. One of the other scavengers (a swearier one: Rey’s already learned some words from him) had snapped it at her, and he wouldn’t explain it now matter how many times she hit his legs with her big stick, so she’d gone to another.
Rey is small, but that works for her, getting in and around the Destroyers, and territorial works for her, too, that willingness to scream and kick and bite to make it clear that this is hers, and they can only take it if they’re willing to take her wrath, too.
So when Rey wakes up in the morning to see a huge ramshackle ship by her home, all she can think is no one is taking this from me.

His gaze moves down to Grogu at his side, whose eyes are wide and bright as he looks up at Din. He can’t help but see those same eyes in Rey as he thinks about Grogu, alone and lost for thirty years before Din came along. He wonders how long Rey will be alone for. Maybe it’s not just Grogu’s eyes he sees in the girl, there’s something kindred about her. Some grit and spine in her spirit he recognizes in himself.
