Summary
The day was supposed to be boring. Just long hours spent cross-examining wholly uninteresting witnesses in order to tie up the loose ends of a dull case. But the day instead ends with Jean on the ground bleeding out under Judit’s shaking hands. As his consciousness wanes and he realizes he’s probably going to die right there with her, he finally gives in to his long-ignored heart and kisses her.
And Judit kisses him back.
When Jean manages to make it to the next day badly injured but alive, he and Judit suddenly find themselves having to grapple with the fallout of that dying decision, while simultaneously navigating psychological trauma, forced medical leave, a damaged brotherhood and a long-broken home life.
