Summary
Shane has never been religious. But he found himself praying, to something, to anything, to the wind that can anchor every wish he had for Ilya—to keep him safe, to keep him healthy, to make him happy again.
He thinks of Ilya’s cross on his necklace, and thinks of his Mom.
Is he going to meet her now? Will he get the chance to tell her how wonderful her son grew up to be? Will he be able to tell her that he tried to love him for the both of them the best way he knew how?
Or: what if it's Shane's plane that almost crashed?

Summary
He was used to being without her.
The pain never went away but the sting became manageable; something he could tuck away and avoid ever thinking about.
Except when he couldn’t.
Like during Hockey Moms Weekend.

Summary
Ilya opened one of his messages.
Have you seen the news?
Ilya, call me. Now.
Please tell me you already fucking know.
Jesus Christ, man. That was it. No context. No explanation. Just panic wrapped in vague bullshit.
His jaw locked. “Are you fucking serious right now,” he muttered, thumb scrolling harder than necessary. Say it or don’t, you assholes. The half-answers made his skin crawl. It felt like they were all circling something awful, whispering around it, waiting for him to step close enough to get hit.
His chest felt tight now, pressure building, so he did the one thing that made sense. He opened social media.
Shane Hollander’s name was everywhere.
Or
Shane was hurt in ways everyone could see, and in ways only Ilya would carry.

Summary
He'd still not seen them kiss or touch in any way that signified love or affection, despite their now very public relationship and the elephant-in-the-room matching gold rings. No, instead, he’d seen Hollander push Rozanov away and tell him to 'fuck off'.
The next half an hour did nothing to lessen his view that they do not seem very compatible. They barely touch. Every time Rozanov moved to touch his husband, Hollander moved away, looking awkward. Instead, they bickered and threw chirps at one another like they were still bitter rivals on the ice.
Then, slowly but surely, Shane Hollander got drunk.
The second the third vodka passed Shane's lips, Wyatt Hayes had let out a long-suffering sigh and said, "Here they go."
Scott frowned, not understanding. "What do you mean?"
Boodram chuckled. “Oh, you’ll see.”
Scott and Carter exchanged a glance as if to say ‘what the fuck?’.
(scott doesn't understand how hollander and rozanov work. one night in his bar is enough for him to realise that he's an idiot)

Summary
“Hey, listen, I know you keep denying that you have a girl here in Boston, but we both know you're lying. You've been seeing her for years. Why don't we text her? Maybe you can spend the night with her at her place or something.”
Shane frowns. What's Hayden even talking about? “Don't have a girl,” he mumbles.
“Shane,” Hayden says, his voice firmer now. “I’m gonna text Lily.”
Shane's eyes widen at that name, only now understanding what Hayden's talking about. Because he might not have a girl in Boston, but-
“No, you can't text Lily.”
__________Shane gets drugged at a club. Ilya takes care of him.
