Four months since a very particular one was placed under his care. Four months since that very man had said a single word to anyone. Simon, an unwilling sacrifice to an unknowing “god”, is at least happy to be alive after his brush with death in the blood ocean. At least Grace seems far more happy with keeping his new “pet” in the best comfort he can. With so many differences between them, miscommunication was bound to happen.

“It’s okay,” says the person, voice trembling as they run gentle fingers through Mike’s hair. It feels nice. Even through the pain, it feels nice.
Then again, Mike isn’t used to casual touch. He has spent the past five years pushing it away.
He opens his eyes weakly, grimacing at the sunlight pouring through. It’s blocked by a head, the person he’s sitting on. From this angle, their features are upside down, obscured by the light behind them.
But he can make out some. It’s a young man, maybe around Mike’s age, with brown hair, soft eyes, soft features. He looks kind. He looks gentle.
Truthfully, he looks a lot like—
“Will?” Mike mumbles, blinking wearily.Or: Mike hasn’t been the same for the last five years. Ever since he lost Will, it’s like he’s been wandering aimlessly in search of purpose. But when he stumbles upon a fairy ring that leads to a magic world and a familiar face, he has to determine what exactly his purpose is and where his priorities lie.
