Summary
A strange sensation overcomes Mafuyu as she continues to stare down at the wet petal laying placidly in her palm. Her body feels tingly, but in a warm fuzzy way.
Mafuyu frowns. She should feel sad right now, shouldn't she? Mafuyu has been handed a potential death sentence, however unlikely.
Hanahaki disease. A fearsome disease during older times, due to lack of treatments. Back then, there was no such thing as medicine for Hanahaki, no safe removal procedure, nor Hanahaki-specific therapy. Nowadays, Hanahaki disease is about as common as pneumonia with none of its deadliness. It’s a mild inconvenience at worst and a motivator for romantic confessions at best. Hanahaki disease is used as the driving force of romance books or movies, in worlds where the only choices are to have the character’s feelings reciprocated or get a surgery lest they die. ‘Love me or I’ll die’ – the pinnacle of romantic ultimatums.
All pointless melodrama.
Anyone who managed to die from Hanahaki disease these days, was frankly – in Mafuyu’s opinion – an idiot.

Summary
A canon divergence AU that diverges from Chapter 92 of the Land of the Lustrous manga. After shattering Cinnabar and in the process themselves, Phosphophyllite did not emerge from the pool of mercury, and instead was disposed of for good. Now, it is thousands of years later, and it seems the events of the past are due to repeat once more as a young gem named Halite is tricked by a cowardly gem named Asbestos, and is lost to the Moon.
Around the same time, a green chalcedony is born at the Beach of Beginnings, and is damaged by the fall from the cliff face yet survives against all odds. They are taken back to the temple by Sulfur, where a deranged Rutile performs an unethical experiment on them, fusing them with a recently-taken Hematite in order to create an entirely new gem. Now, it's up to Bloodstone to figure out who they're meant to be.
