Gale whipped around toward the source of the awful sound, heart in his throat and eyes as wide as saucers. His glass of water lay in shards on the floor, liquid seeping across the tile. The air was growing colder by the second, goosebumps rising on Gale’s skin. And that smell— that awful sanguine smell… It grew stronger. As if whatever produced it was growing… closer. So he took off running.

Summary
Gale wished he could turn invisible but, as it was, he could only shrink into the bench seat. He shouldn’t have come. He didn’t even like the damn restaurant. It had non-authentic Italian food, the waitstaff were typically younger and had no actual want to serve the food. It was such a different experience from the little family owned restaurant that was just down the street from where he lived.
But Mystra enjoyed going here. And Gale was wallowing.
And there she was with her newest date and Gale was sitting alone in a booth. He knew she would end up seeing him and making some comment. And he didn’t want to seem as pitiful as he certainly looked.
