Summary
Sure, they've saved the world, but the best part of that really is that it doesn't end there and in a town where everyone thinks he murdered a girl, he's at least got Steve Harrington and Robin Buckley. It's really not his fault he accidentally starts living at Steve's house, he was invited, after all. There's a mystery too, about Barbara Holland and Steve's pool.
“Your boner is digging into me,” says Robin, and Steve snorts a tired sort of laugh.
“I don’t have a —”
“You do, I can feel it. Gross.”
“Okay, but it’s only a little one,” he says in a small voice which sounds like he’s impersonating someone.
“Are you ever going to let that go? I peed a little bit when the Russians got the torture devices out, okay?” She sounds amused, though.
Eddie jolts. “Russian torture devices?”
Robin carries on like she didn’t hear him but Steve catches his eye and he’s grinning. “How do you even have a boner dude? You were definitely having a nightmare I know your twitching means a nightmare… Did you have a boner over Vecna?”

“I’m not fucking anyone,” whines Steve, like this is a painful conversation for him. “And I’m not going to, for a while.”
“You need to get a girlfriend,” says Mike, “it’s kinda sad, me and Dustin and Lucas all have girlfriends and we’re younger than you by like, a lot.”
“Or a boyfriend,” says Lucas, doubtfully, “because it’s looking that desperate. I don’t think you could get a boyfriend though.”
“A boyfriend wouldn’t be my last resort,” says Steve, snorting, “it’s not like you run out of girls and just say ‘reckon I should move onto the other half of the population now’.” Which is weird, because it sounds like Steve is saying he’s attracted to men anyway, in a sort of roundabout way without actually saying it. “And I could definitely get a guy, you little shit.”
Will is staring at him, like he’s never seen him before. “And it would be okay to get a boyfriend?”

“I know that look, Wheeler,” Murray finally says. “Boy troubles again?”
Nancy makes a wordless, outraged sound, her eyes flashing. Jonathan’s arms flex around her waist, like he’s trying to hold her back, but his jaw clenches like he’s ready to get up and start swinging.
“Oh, Murray, not this,” Mom sighs, trying to head him off.
“Why the hell would you think that?” Nancy snaps.
Murray flicks his eyes down at her sweatshirt, eyes trailing over the bold blue letters, processing the words Hawkins High Basketball slowly. “Just a guess,” he finally says, smarmy.
Nancy’s nose twitches. Jonathan breathes out hard through his mouth, his fingers twisting around the pocket of Nancy’s sweatshirt.
“Oh,” Murray says, his eyebrows flying up. “Now that is interesting.” He licks his lips, glancing between Mom, who’s starting to look murderous, and Nancy and Jonathan, who already do. “We like Steve, indeed,” he finishes.

Joyce fetches the blankets from Will’s bed to add to the ones from Jane and Max’s that they’re already using and then leaves them to it. If she’s trusting Steve, Jonathan and Nancy after the things she’s heard tonight, she’s definitely trusting the kids.
Jim kisses her on the landing, long and sweet, and then ruins it by whispering in her ear “want to try felching?”
She claps her hands over her mouth to keep in her horrified laughter. “I never ever want to know what that is, if it made Jonathan blush like that,” she hisses, “and if you know you can damn well keep it to yourself!”
“I have no idea, and if an old soldier turned policeman doesn’t know it must be bad,” Jim says cheerfully and then shocks a real laugh out of her by sweeping her up into his arms, bridal style.
“You ever think maybe you’d like to get married again?” he asks, as he carries her to their room.
“No,” she says. “One try was more than enough for me. But I think I’d like to be not married to you for the rest of my life.”

Steve couldn’t control the guffaw that escaped him.
“But then you said Jonathan’s name. Right after mine. All in the same breath.”

A weight settled in his chest.
“It is really that obvious?” he asked quietly.
Nancy was across the room before he could even blink, gripping his shoulders tightly, chin tilted up towards him, trying to catch his eye.
“Steve, listen to me. You’re okay, everything is okay. What you’re feel—what you may feel, it’s…there’s nothing wrong with you.”
He let out another snort at that, despite the fluttering in his chest.
“Come on, Nancy. You’ve seen the news…heard what they say about—about guys who…” he swallowed the lump in his throat, horrified to feel the familiar sting behind his eyes.

He’s been silent for way too long. “The girls front,” he finishes lamely. And then, like an idiot: “Or boys, I guess?”
Will absolutely gapes at him.
Steve freezes like a deer in the headlights. What the hell did he just say? Oh, God, this is all Dustin Henderson’s fault. One clingy kid and Steve is trying to trade secrets with all of them, as if he himself didn’t hate teenagers on sight before he was one. Why is he even talking to a twelve-year-old kid about his sexuality? Why is anyone trusting Steve to babysit their traumatized spawn?
Will’s face doesn’t move, but his voice comes out in a whisper. “You like boys too?”
