Only out in the middle of nowhere were they finally allowed to act exactly how they did in private: like a normal couple.
Sometimes he was worried that Shadow didn’t want to entertain the parts of a relationship that he had been looking forward to for years, the only thing he had ever been envious of. But before he could even voice his opinion, it was already being cut off by Shadow’s own concerns.

Sonic Movie 3 Spoilers!
Sonic is struck with grief in the wake of Shadow's sacrifice. Shadow, in his truest form—his pain, his honor, the good in his heart—is Sonic's little secret. The world isn't ready. Nobody would understand, not even his own family. Sonic is more than ready to shoulder the burden.
But Shadow's not dead.
It doesn't take long for he and Sonic to fall into their awkward little tango. Midnights spent sneaking into the Wachowski household lends well to forming a strong, indestructible bond, and it's only natural that, over the course of it all, two hedgehogs fall in love.
Title comes from the song Hunter by Paris Paloma, which played at the theater before my second viewing of Sonic 3, and now is a song I associate wholly with sonadow. Haha, whoops!

Black hedgehog ears flicker towards the giggling gossip, the gloved hand that was outreached to the determining factor of his future pausing.
“He might as well win every year. That hedgehog is never settling down.”
Both ears press back against his head, a grimace spread across his tan muzzle.
“Well, his catchphrase is ‘Gotta Go Fast.’ I doubt there’s anyone who would be able to keep up with him.”
Focus, his mind chides. Grab the test and get out of here.
“Please. There are plenty. He needs someone who is worth slowing down for.”
