"If you blow up, you take the whole of Spring Station with you. I'm not going to wait around to find out that you got bored and did something stupid."
Grace shoves both of his hands into his hair and groans at the ceiling.
"I don't need a babysitter," he grits out, dropping his hands. "No offense - actually, full offense - I'm sick of you."
"Then hurry up and fix it if you want me gone," Simon retorts, his jaw ticking."I don't know how."
Simon, who's clearly lost his patience, leans forward and hisses, "Then we're obviously fucking stuck with each other."
or: the hail mary falls through a void into a universe where the stars are dimming, so grace offers his help in exchange for food. problem number one: the universe has tied grace and simon together with a mysterious curse that could end with grace exploding like a dying star if they're apart for too long.
problem number two: they hate each other.

Summary
Nearly five years after their divorce, Ryland Grace and Simon Acer have gotten pretty good at being strangers.
Until their former professor and mentor dies. With a last-minute flight across the country being well outside a middleschool teacher’s budget, Ryland is left with only one option: ask his ex husband for a ride. Simon agrees, and they set out on five days of highways, shitty motels, shared grief, and revisiting places and pieces of themselves they haven’t thought about since they were young and in love.

Summary
“Can you talk?” Simon asks. “Or are you past that?”
In response, Grace licks his neck. Okay then. Definitely past the point of coherent verbal communication.
“Stop that,” Simon says mildly, shrugging his shoulder to jostle Grace, who grunts when Simon’s collarbone thuds into his nose and tightens his grip on Simon’s shirt in mute protest.
