“Will?” Mike murmured. He must be mistaken. Will couldn’t be standing there. No, he was in New York City pursuing his art career. Although, last Mike heard, the name William Byers was well known. It was no longer just Will. Not Will the Wise. Not his Will. It was famous, successful artist Williams Byers now.
“Mike?” Will said back, almost surprised to see him there too. His eyes widened like he had seen a ghost. That must be how Mike had looked at Jane when Dustin brought her back to Hawkins. “You—you teach here?”
“Yeah,” Mike nodded, studying Will’s face, memorising it the way he used to. The colour of his eyes. The shape of them. The shape of lips. The colour of his lips. It had been such a long time, but there were faces that stayed in your mind forever. Time could pass. You would still remember them. That was what Will’s face was to him. But that didn’t explain why Will was there. In the staff room of Hawkins High School. Mike gazed at his face. “Wait, are you the new art teacher?”
