Summary
“Someone referred to me as your wife the other day.” Buck started.
Eddie choked on air. His cheeks were so pink. Why did he blush like that? Buck was paler than him, and yet somehow he didn’t blush anywhere near as hard as Eddie himself did.
“Do you think of me as your old ball and chain?” Eddie asked, going along with the joke despite the frankly upsetting colour of his cheeks. How was this Buck looking in love with him? Obviously they were comfortable with each other, but still.
Buck gasped, his eyes big, his back straightening out as he got ready to fight with God himself on this topic. Eddie knew immediately the rant he had started, Buck’s mockingly serious voice raising as he stared Eddie down intently.
“I would never refer to my wife as the old ball and chain. You don’t hold me down, you pick me up, you dirty little bitch. You’re the wind beneath my wings. God.”

Summary
“Well, to be honest... after Tommy, I think I’m gonna stay away from first responders for a while.”
The room stilled for a fraction of a second too long.
Eddie didn’t know how to react to the new information. Because, it turns out, Eddie was a first responder.
But, oh.
There were a lot of other careers he could try that far in life.
Or,
Buck makes an innocent comment about not dating first responders so no one will suspect of his newfound feelings for Eddie, and unknowingly breaks Eddie's heart in the process. And because Eddie is a grown-up, logical and perfectly mentally-balanced adult, he does not start thinking about switching careers only so he can ask Buck out on a date.
(He does. And, hey; ballroom dancing is not that bad a career path).

Summary
For a while, it works well. He’s there for Eddie and Eddie lets him help with whatever arbitrary thing he’s doing then; sometimes that means doing the dishes or doing the laundry and sometimes they just sit there, watching some mind numbing show. It’s nice. But like all nice things in Buck’s life, it, too, comes to an abrupt end much too soon.
OR
Eddie's acting like he's the only one in pain and shutting Buck out and Buck can't deal with that.
