“Okay, fine. Let’s do it.” Will flicks up the sleeve of his shirt on his wrist and holds it up.
Mike’s expression wavers.
“Or, if you want to back out…” Will asks worriedly, letting his hand fall.
“No, I—I guess I just assumed. The neck’s the best place to do it, right?”
On the cusp of presentation, is Will really ready for the changes heading his way? Especially the uncertainty regarding his... friendship with Mike. Or was friendship even the right way to categorise them, anymore?

Will shoves his face back into his hands. “I’m going to fail.”
Max rolls her eyes. “You’re not going to fail, you’re going to paint Mike.”
Will lifts his head up from his hands, eyes wide, and shakes his head. “You don’t understand.” He pleads with his awful, awful friends, voice low. “He’s been, he’s using my-he came out of my bathroom in just a towel last night.”

Summary
“I’m sorry,” Mike breaks the peaceful silence, “About not asking you to be my best man.” He elaborates at Will’s curious head tilt, “I know we always said when we were younge-“
Will cut him off, unwillingly to linger on broken promises “It’s fine, Mike. We’re not as close as we were when we were kids,” Will shrugs like it doesn’t hurt, “It happens.”
Mike stares at him with a pained expression that Will can’t place. Guilt shone in his eyes before he averts them, “That’s not why I didn’t ask.” He mumbles into his chest.
“Scared I’d outshine the groom, then” Will aims for levity wincing as it falls flat.
Mike sits in quiet contemplation beside him still avoiding facing him as he gazes out to the trees swaying in the breeze on the outskirts of the property.
“I thought it would be for the best.” He whispers so quietly that Will can barely hear him, “Kinder.”
Will felt the stone that first appeared back in middle school settle itself firmly back in his gut, pressing into the soft walls of his insides.
“Will-“ Mike takes a deep breath, ready to ask a question they’ve both been avoiding for well over a decade, and turns to stare directly into his eyes “Are you in love with me?”

His hand is steadily aching. Will says, “You shouldn’t have punched him.”
Mike pushes his fingers into his thighs. “That’s stupid.”
“I wish you didn’t,” Will readjusts. He brings up a hand to hold Mike’s face again, fingers a little damp where they press against his cheek, his jaw. Mike wants to lean into it. “He isn’t – he doesn’t bother me anymore, you know. What he says. It doesn’t matter. He doesn’t matter.”
Mike shrugs. “I don’t regret it,” he says, and Will leans away, looks at him properly. “I’d do it again.”
Mike gets hurt, and Will fixes him up, in more ways than one.

“I feel like you used to tell me things,” Mike says.
Will looks away from his Walkman, back to Mike. It’s almost startling, finding him already looking back. “I – tell you things,” he replies, a little awkwardly. He barely gets through the sentence before Mike is already shaking his head.
"No,” he frowns, “you – you used to tell me things. Like, stuff you wouldn’t tell everyone else.” He seems conflicted, and he looks away. “Stuff just between us.”
Will doesn’t know where to begin.
Will tries to navigate a conversation with a freshly-broken-up-with Mike.

Summary
He was starting, very reluctantly, to regret saying “no” when Dustin and Lucas invited him out. At least they would’ve given him some noise, distraction, someone to argue with, maybe even a working fan. He could feel the annoyance growing inside him and there was only one thing that could fix this. Will. He needed to talk with him.

Summary
“No idea what you’re talking about,” Mike says, and his embarrassing insistence is worth it when Will lets out a light laugh, soft and summery. Mike readjusts himself, just to make sure his legs don’t go entirely numb when he’s crouched over Will like this, torsos pressed together and arms slotted together. “No idea.”
“Uh-huh.” A smile teases at Will’s lips, amusement in his voice. It’s all too attractive. “Alright, tough guy.”
“That’s me,” Mike beams, and Will’s smile tastes sweet when he comes in close for a kiss, catching him open-mouthed.
Will's powers seem to go haywire every time they kiss.

When Max is sent away for a month for advanced out of state hospital treatment, Lucas is left with way too much time and way too many feelings. So when he notices the unresolved tension simmering between Will and Mike, he decides to do something about it. But before he can even process what that truly entails, he’s already knee deep in secrets, feelings, and “friendships” that are a lot more complicated than he signed up for.
OR: What starts as a distraction from missing Max turns into the most complicated plan of Lucas’s life as he shifts from helping Will get over Mike to setting them up together (because he’s the bestest, most supportive friend ever, obviously!)

From somewhere in the house, floorboards creak, and Nancy freezes, grip on her water glass tightening. She holds her breath, counts to ten three times over, and then, when nothing jumps out of the (albeit limited) darkness to attack her, she relaxes, taking another steadying sip of water and shaking her head, annoyed with herself.
“Nancy?” a voice asks from the doorway, and she drops the glass.
Nancy is a little intimidated by Will, even though she has approximately zero reasons to be.

“I know, okay? I know.” Mike ran a hand through his hair. “I’m just scared. I don’t want them to think of me like that.”
Will wrinkled his nose. “If you have a problem with being ‘like that’, then you need to take a step back and evaluate the situation. Because I hate to break it to you, but we’re both ‘like that’ whether you like it or not.”
Mike stared back unflinching. “That’s not what I meant. You think I have a problem with being queer? No. Of course not. Believe it or not, I love it. It means I get to have you.”
The earnest look in Mike’s eyes was enough to melt Will. So he tried to smile and placed his hand on top of Mike’s. “So what do you mean, then?"
“I don’t want them to think of me differently. Like, I don’t want to be their gay friend. Mike, the queer. I just want to be Mike.”OR: Will's ready to come out to the Party, but Mike isn't quite there yet.

Will’s mouth falls open, just a touch. Mike has one leg on either side of his dorky offroad bicycle in the middle of a tree-lined street, the weak January sun painting him in a halo ring of white, and he’s asking Will not to leave him.

Summary
“Don’t worry, I’ll do it,” Mike protests weakly, but Will ignores him. “You need to rest, yeah,” he continues softly, swallowing audibly at the thought of Will’s fingers on him again.
“I want to take care of—” Will mumbles, fumbling for gauze and bandages, his focus wavering. Mike notices the flush creeping up Will’s cheeks, bright and vivid against his otherwise pale, tired skin. And it warms something inside Mike, just a little, because Will wants to take care of him.
or; Mike is confused, and maybe Will offering to take care of his wounds after their encounter with Vecna only makes things worse.
