“Shut up!” Mike says with a scowl. “I meant, like…I was just thinking…why don’t we just do it? Why don’t Will and I kiss?”
It’s as if you could hear a pin drop.
Lucas stares at Mike like he’s grown an extra head. Dustin and El exchange a meaningful look. Even Max, who just a moment ago had been happily poking fun at Mike, is seemingly at a loss for words.
Will is silent too, color rising to his cheeks. It’s one thing for Max to suggest it; it’s another entirely for Mike to double down. Mike, his best friend for as long as he can remember. Mike, who regardless of any newfound warmth could barely touch Will for an entire year. Mike, who is oblivious to the fact that Will is desperately in love with him.
Mike, who despite all that said Why don’t Will and I kiss as if it were the simplest thing in the world.
After his first semester of college ends, Will is more than happy to spend a relaxing New Year's Eve in Mike's basement with the rest of the Party. Things go off the rails, however, when Max and El ask everyone to join in on an interesting new tradition—a tradition which may or may not involve him and Mike sharing a kiss.

Summary
It starts as a slight shift—a brush of their hands as Mike hands him a plate at breakfast, a teasing grin that lasts a little too long, breaths matching up as Will calms down from another nightmare. It’s almost imperceptible, almost the same as how they used to be around each other. But Will has been in love with Mike since the moment they became friends, and so he can tell, instantly, that something is different. Something slight had changed.
And that was fine. Will could handle the extra touches or lingering glances. God knows he’d welcomed it.
Except now the shift isn’t so slight anymore. Frankly, it’s gotten a bit out of hand, and now they’re something else entirely. It’s beyond confusing, this weird arrangement they’ve got, and now Will doesn’t have a clue in hell what to do.
or: what could have possibly happened in those 18 months before fall of 1987 to make Will ask Robin how obvious the signs had to be

The conversation has carried on without him, Dustin relaying all of his radio updates, the news about the burn. No one says anything more about the sleeping arrangements, but there’s something sour at the back of Mike’s throat when he watches Will bike off with Dustin.

After the earthquake (read: Upside Down splits open) Will Byers needs a place to stay. So why isn't he staying at Mike's?

Summary
Will has been having a hard time sharing a house with Mike and room with his brother. Maybe one of those on it's own would be manageable, but being around a touchy-feely Mike 24/7 and not having his own space to let out everything he has been repressing leads Will to a bit of a mortifying situation. Luckily, when Mike finds out he is understanding. Maybe a little too understanding, though because suddenly he's offering up his room in case Will ever needs some privacy.
Things escalate from there..
But it basically became a slowburn mwtfdyd fic with non canon post Vecna resolution.
