“The Worst Is Probably Behind You, Nina.” The other person assured.
Nina felt her heart swell at the sound of her own name, not having heard it in days. She rolled over carefully, looking at the other person. She couldn’t see them very well in the dim light, but she could tell they were sat on the floor, leaning on a stack of cages behind them.
“Ni-Na.” She repeated happily, and she felt her tail wag a little behind her. “Nina!”

When Nina is separated from her father she is sent to the Far West Lab, the resting place for chimera experiments that are better left in obscurity. Still struggling with speaking and her own muddled mind, Nina finds herself taken in by one of the Part Time residents at the Lab.
But her troubles aren't yet over.

Hunter groaned and put his head in his hands. “I think I’m going crazy, Luz,” he sighed, “I’m having memories of Flapjack being with me in times I know I hadn't met her yet. Like-like when I was a kid, it's like she's there when I didn't know she existed. And sometimes I hear her and it scares me half to death.”
