alt rock band leader dan, is from a poor family, he’s worked damn hard to build everything he has and get into the top music university yet still gets screwed for those with daddy’s money. he tends to resent nepobabies who get handed everything.
pop star phil was raised a star, a child prodigy turned no1 star. he loves music but fame is suffocating and nobody seems to understand. he enrolls in the top music university to rediscover his love for music. he tends to resent elitist assholes who judge when they could never understand what he goes through.
when they are paired together as roommates, to say they get off on the wrong foot is an understatement. but when they end up getting pulled into each other’s world and becoming far more intertwined than they both could’ve ever imagined, something begins to brew.

All things considered, Dan was happy. Happier than he ever imagined he would be, at least. Still, something was always lacking. It felt like one of his internal organs was missing, like it had been taken from him somewhere along the way, leaving behind a dull ache that pulsed with intensified pain now and then. He felt it when he was alone at a party, standing in the corner. When he was making forced small talk at a bar. When it was late at night and his bed was cold and empty. When he played MarioKart alone on his couch. When he was making his morning coffee and instinctively reached for that second mug. When he was out in public and caught a glimpse of a tall bony frame with a head of dyed black hair.

Dan Howell quit YouTube after he broke the heart of the first boy he ever loved. That was thirteen years ago. After a lot of struggling (and a lot of therapy) he is now a well known mental health podcaster. When he is suddenly thrown back together with Phil Lester, he can't bring himself to stay out of his orbit. And it seems like maybe, just maybe, Phil doesn't want him to.
