"I still want to know why you came back to save me," Chuuya mutters, when Dazai's halfway through the door. Against his better judgment, Dazai lingers on the threshold, debating what to say. He could have tossed him another insult and been done with it, but his mouth is already moving before he can stop himself.
"Maybe I wasn't satisfied with how I left things," Dazai says with a flat indifference that doesn't match his words.

His breathing seemed more shallow, sweat trickling down his collar and forehead. Vanitas knelt down, brushing his bangs aside to check for a fever, but he knew that it was something else the moment the vampire looked up, crimson tinted irises locking with his own.
"Vanitas…something is wrong…" Noé gasped, struggling to keep his breathing in check.
Well that much was obvious.

"You're mad about something," it's not a question but a statement, from the way Vanitas says it, needle still held aloft.
"Brilliant deduction," Noé glowers down at the other man, tossing the rags on the bed next to him. Noé's sleeve is shredded open from shoulder to wrist, a couple deep gouges splitting his skin. Thinner, less damaging scratches drag across his brow above his left eye, the blood from it soaked into the white of his bangs to turn it muted scarlet. Other bumps and bruises litter him, but he's still on his feet for the most part. It's Vanitas who had regrettably gotten the worst of it.

“Then you can keep up with me, yeah?” Noe asks, picking up the tinted bottle and shuffling off sideways in the direction of his own glass with a smile on his lips. Vanitas looks momentarily sick at the prospect, but pauses when his memories flicker back to the last time this had happened.

If Vanitas were truly being honest with himself - a tall feat for someone so used to evading that task - he was annoyed with himself just as much, for even being affected by the events of the last week. It was easier to pin the blame on someone else though, and even if he’d admitted his own fault, it still all ended and began with Noé at the center.

Somewhere under the annoyance - at Vanitas, at Jeanne, at himself- there's a stirring of curiosity that's been building from the moment he'd come back from work. There's no use in trying to taste it, the blood absorbed by the pale blue fabric until it's turned to rust...but the smell. The distinct coppery smell of blood lingers on the air, imperceptible to a human but a cannon blast to a vampire like him. It's annoying, annoying for the simple fact that it's Vanitas' blood. Annoying because it's Vanitas's blood and it smells divine.

He freezes, because he’s not ready to face Vanitas, not yet. He’s not ready to confront the swirl of emotions threatening to overload him, the tangle of warring wants and desires that can’t all coexist. Part of him had hoped the human would simply pass out upon returning so that they could start tomorrow new, but that had been a foolish hope. They don’t say anything. The air’s heavy, and the only sound seems to be the persistent pounding of the rain outside.
The hush breaks, as sudden as a thunder clap, “Stay.”

Dazai's brain itched at the proposition, his own interest peaking slightly.

“If you think i’m going to let you ruin my night, you are dead wrong,” Chuuya vows, knocking back the drink Dazai had sent him in one go. Dazai makes an appreciative noise at the display of defiance, leaning back against the bar again.
“Who said that I was intending to ruin your fun?” Dazai asks, golden-brown eyes going lidded while watching Chuuya lower the glass to the bar top.

Chuuya glares up at Dazai, willing away the heat in his face, “I don’t want you to fist me, if that’s what you’re insinuating,” he replies flatly.
“Are you sure?” Dazai weedles, “You’re never...considered it before?”

Everything was still hazy, and nearly indistinguishable from the darkness that had fallen since sunset when he’d first come to the harbor. There were two things he noticed however, before passing out again on the shore.
The first, a pair of jewel-bright blue eyes peered down at him, the rest of this person’s face hidden by the backlighting of a nearby street lamp.
The second, Dazai registered with muted alarm as the stranger retreated back into the water, was the smash of a large tail against the waves.
