One of my favorite AU stories I've ever read, with so much care in preserving integral themes from the original story. Rain Mikamura's narration has an undeniable catchy beat, like a song that makes your heart swell with the music.

He trusted that they would be able to explain to the young boy why his father had gone, and to bring him up as a worthy successor.
They also knew, better than anyone, their comrade’s propensity for foolish optimism.
