"Was it the fact that half of them are convinced that the other half are werewolves?"

"Was it Eren and Krista doing their creepy mind-meld thing?"
The Sergeant sighed in defeat. "No."
"Oh… was it-"
"They were talking about how attractive they find the Armored Titan."
Shadis let out a single dry bark of laughter. "Yeah. I ignore those discussions on purpose."

It started with talk, whispers, chatter, gossip. It started with mentions of pattering feet, blurs of in the distance, the distent sound of screeching wires. It started with reports stating that they had encountered notably less titans. It started with a drastic drop in injuries, with an even more drastic drop in fatalities. It started with new soldiers coming home more often than not. It started with Hange running into his office, complaining that they hadn't seen a single titan on their latest expedition.
People still died. There were still titans. The regiment still had the highest fatality rate. It certainly wasn’t safe to leave the walls. However, something had changed. Erwin wasn’t entirely sure what had changed, but something undoubtedly had. There was something beyond the walls, he knew it, and whatever it was either killing or driving away the titans. Erwin wasn’t sure which was more terrifying.
